Juvenile Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by significant widespread pain and fatigue which can interfere with a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. When it is diagnosed in adolescents, it is called juvenile fibromyalgia.

1 out of every 6 people diagnosed with fibromyalgia is under the age of 18. Symptoms often include:

  • pain and fatigue
  • pain when pressure is applied to certain places on the body called “tender points”
  • trouble sleeping
  • morning stiffness
  • headaches
  • problems with thinking and memory

The main purpose of this juvenile fibromyalgia study is to find out if the study drug called milnacipran is safe and effective in helping young people manage their fibromyalgia. Although milnacipran is still investigational in adolescents, milnacipran has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in adults for the management of fibromyalgia.

Summit Research Network participates in research studies of investigational medication for juvenile fibromyalgia. If you are selected, all research-related care and study medications will be provided at no cost.
