Symptoms of Anxiety
Anxiety is an excessive or exaggerated feeling of tension or worry about everyday life events. People who are anxious tend to worry about health, money, or family and this worry is typically unrealistic or out of proportion. The following are common symptoms associated with anxiety:
- Excessive nervousness or anxiousness
- Unrealistic worry about things that might happen
- Restlessness or feeling keyed-up or on-edge
- Changes in sleeping patterns
- Irritability
- Difficulty concentrating or 'mind going blank'
- Easily fatigued
- Muscle tension
Every year, there are nearly 7 million Americans with generalized anxiety and their ages range from childhood to the elderly years. Research has identified medications that may be effective for a variety of anxiety disorders.
